  • This five day course is designed for students who are about to go to college or university or who are leaving halls of residence to fend for themselves.
  • They will learn basic cooking techniques like how to choose ingredients, how to use leftovers, how to budget and manage money and learn wholesome Home style dishes, to help Stay away from junk food which will help them survive healthily through their time away.
  • They will leave with an apron, a folder of easy but nutritious recipes and an enthusiasm for cooking.
  • They will cook both individually and in pairs and will be shown how to plan and cook meals which will not break their budget.
  • During the course, they will cook their own lunches and will have prepared dishes to take away with them at the end of every day.
  • The course is aimed to boost the students’ confidence and transform store bought packaged food into a restaurant style meal.
  • Learn everything you need, to survive university life; from egg preparations to soups, one pot meals to Indian snacks.

Day 1 – Basic Skills

  • Knife Skills – Learn various cuts of vegetables and how to use them in
    different cuisines.
  • Basic Cooking Method – Learn different styles of cooking i.e. boiling,
    stir-frying, poaching etc
  • Basic Ingredient Knowledge – Learn to pick the right ingredients, basic
    flavor profiles and pairings
  • Basic Vinaigrettes and Healthy Dressings- Technique & Storage tips
  • Healthy and Easy Salads
  • How to process and preserve fruits and use them in different forms in
    jams, preserves and smoothies.
  • Learn to pickle vegetables and preserve them to use them as
    accompaniments of dishes.

Day 2 – Breakfast Preparations

  • Learn how to make basic egg preparations like omelets, poached eggs,
    sunny side up and more.

  • Pancakes and Crepes.

Day 3 – Healthy Dips , Spreads & Sauces

Day 4 – Quick Lunch and Dinner Fixes

  • Three styles of Soups – (cream, clear and puree)
  • Three types of Sandwiches (plain, grilled and toasted using healthy

  • Basic Indian lunch and dinner preparations. (dal, rice, mixed vegetable
    and curry)

Day 5 – Elevating packaged food

  • How to boil pasta and make simple pasta sauces
  • Asian Stir-Fry with different sauces.
  • Elevated Ramen (three different ways)
  • Grilled chicken / grilled fish / cottage cheese with sauces and
  • Basic Indian breakfast, lunch and dinner preparations. (dal, rice, mixed
    vegetable and curry)
  • One pot meals
